Why I wont be voting Labour this time.

I wont be voting Labour This General Election. I have actually decided at last. I'ts a shame because I actually want them to form the next Government 100% more than I want the Tories.

However, I cant bring myself to vote Labour because of the Iraq War.
It isnt about the WMD issue either. Truth is Anyone can make a mistake, Tony Blair Probabally has the hardest job in the country and I really dont envy him for it. Poor sod has taken loads of shite of everyone , accusing him of being a liar, he swears he isnt.

No, the reason I am not voting Labour is becase we actually went to war, when there was no real need. In my opinion.

When Maggie Thatcher took Britain to war in the middle of her
Term, British territory had been invaded. The principle really was there, we had to put up or shut up. The fact that the Falkland Islands weren't anywhere near Britain and didnt really yeild any ecomomic wealth was unimportant. It was a matter of pride and sovereignty. True, they were of Stategic importance as a Naval listening, and jumping off point but thats where the value ended.

A Cruise Missile costs around £301,410.07, I mean, come on Tone, How many hospital beds would that buy? How many Interactive Whiteboards would that buy...a shit load thats how many. How many broadband school networks , how many exercise books, how many laptops?

Education, Education, Education....where does death from above fit into that?

It's not that the war was illegal, which it was! Even Lord Goldsmith the Attorney General had to be convinced to change his mind . It's not that we went to war with an under-equipped Army, who werent issued with the proper equipment to back em up.

It's not that we bombed the crap out of thousands of Inncocent iraqis I , to rid the world of a despot who had all the teeth of a 50 year old budgie.

It's not that we blindly followed our old Ally America into the war against the advice of the security council....no, no, it is simply because the money could have been better spent here at home. Hospitals, Roads, Education, Scool dinners, Mental health, Council Tax Caps...need I go on?

87 British Servicemen have died up to now in Iraq. Why, when really we could have spent the money it cost to send them there on issues that needed attention here.

I liked Tony blair once , I thought he was just the shot in the arm the Labour Party needed. He galvanised them into a Fighting force who had vision. Now I reckon he's a liability. People en masse hate the bloke, He should do himself a favour and retire quietly.

Gordon Brown will step into the breach, he will be hailed ..then nailed .. let's face it he doesnt have the personality of a PM.

Then next Election we will have another Tory Government. This election though , I'm gonna risk it and Vote Lib Dem I think.

I stand by my principles, and like a lot of other people I wont be voting Labour this time. Let's hope that Labour can take the punch on the chin, that the country will deliver on May 5th, and get the message.

In 2003, I did a little Video for the BBC Video Nation, in it i mentioned how I thought what Stoke really needed was for people to start solving problems instead of just moaning about how crap things are.

Well, now I have given up. Watch the video if you like though.

URI vs. URL, Bernie Zimmermann

URI vs. URL, Bernie Zimmermann: "URI vs. URL

Originally posted on October 28, 2003 4:56 PM in Computers

I am a posting machine today! Anyway, for a while now I've been quite confused about the difference between URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) and URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers). I finally decided to do a little research and try and identify the distinction. I found the following at the W3C's Contemporary View of Uniform Resource Identifiers:

'...a URL is a type of URI that identifies a resource via a representation of its primary access mechanism (e.g., its network 'location'), rather than by some other attributes it may have. Thus as we noted, 'http:' is a URI scheme. An http URI is a URL. The phrase 'URL scheme' is now used infrequently, usually to refer to some subclass of URI schemes...'

However, as is typical with W3C documents and specs, there's a little too much technical mumbo-jumbo floating around in that explanation to satisfy anyone who doesn't balance their checkbook in binary, so I kept looking. Kenneth Fly's Web Site provides the following:

'URI stands for Universal Resource Identifier and URL stands for Universal Resource Locator. Often times people use the terms interchangably, which is not entirely correct. A URL is a subset of the URI popular protocols. These are protocols (http://, ftp://, mailto:). Therefore all URLs are URIs. The term URL is deprecated and the more correct term URI is used in technical documentation. All URIs are means to access a resource on the Internet and are a a technical short hand used to link to the resource. URIs always designate a method to access the resource and designate the specific resource to be accessed.'

So...my terminology is apparently way out-dated and I need to start saying 'URI' instead of 'URL.' Why? Because anything that has been deprecated is bad news (remember the evil tag?). Now I know, and knowing is half the battle."

Political smearing in election broadcast

I watched the Tory election broadcast last night , to be honest i was shocked that they used some clever , underhanded tactics to portray the leaders of the other parties in a very poor light.

Amongst punchy catchy headlines very poor demeaning pictures were used of Both Tony Blair and Charles Kennedy.

I captured some images from the broadcast and put together what it conveyed to me.

I'm not saying this is right but I saw through this technique. Click the link below to watch the clip for your self and let me know what you think.

A new Pope a New Era?

Ok...I dont know that much abouot theis Ratzinger guy, but according to all the comentators the Catholic Church have chosen a fairly traditional hardliner to be the new pope.

I for one am a little dissapointed. Whilst I beleive there is a place for traditional values in society, god knows we need some marality in this day and age..

Ratzingers views on married priests, women priests and Condoms , surely cant do the world any good.

The Church isnt as strong as it once was...so surely they need to start pulling together. With Aids Rife in Africa and Easern Europe...surely the whole condoms issue has to be seriously looked at again?

I Reckon the Cardinals wasted a great chance to show the world the Catholic Church can move with the times.

Snails on the move

You get some pretty big snails in our garden. In fact there are hundreds of them....a couple of weeks ago I got bad Karma by killing about 100. They would have eaten out Garden to a desert. Last night though i saw this one...thought it was well cool. I hate having to kill animals. Next time i'm just gonna move them.

The Black Dont Crack...lol..not till you're 51 anyway

I found this Link on Tech-PC today it allows you to upload a phot of yourself and see what you will look like in 40 years...scary..

The Gregory Family History -Tideswell and Beyond

It's been playing on my mind a lot recently , that I have done diddly squat on my project to document the Family tree wof the Gregory Family.

The Gregory Family , well our branch of it is rather large, however in comparison to the Gregory Family tree I have located...Our branch is tiny. I have in my possession a detailed document on all Gregory's decended from William and Hannah of Elton.

There are many families. I am sure that there are many people still to be added , but it's a daunting task. If anyone should happen to know anything please feel free to let me know. the website address I posted here is to my old site and it has just a little of the information I have Found.

Right now I have added a lot of Our side of the Family to The Personal ancestral File (PAF) maker found at The Mormon website.

I have loads of info but when reveiwing it , thats when you realise you are only just scratching the surface of a scratch on the surface :(

What is all this Popery?

Ok, I realise now that what I'm about to say could potentially make me unpopular with certain sections of the readership. But I have to ask the question...

What is with all this Greif for the Pope? I certainly accept that people are sad that an old man who did a lot for the Catholic church is dead. Surely a ard or some Flowers would express Grief adequately?

Yet for the last week or so people have been cramming themselves into St Peters Square in Rome and cryingd, wailing and the like. Now is it me...or are all these people slightly barmy? I cannot for the life of me understand how all these people are not at work or even how they dont have LIVING relatives who actually need them more than the dead pope does.

To me this is a living example of how the Power and authority of the State actually ahave a terrible vice like grip over the lives of many ordinary citizens.

Lets look at the evidence, A pope dies, he may of been a nice man and done good work but who actually knew him, or knew anything about the man himself?

Soon a bunch of Cardinals...(unelected by the majority of Catholics...will get togrther and choose a new Pope. Then the masses will Turn up to worship this New Pope. Why? Because he is the head of the church? Or because some Cardinals who the masses didnt vote, for tell you the public to worship this guy.

Then in ten years time we will go through the whole charade again.

Can anyone actually explain or validate all this to me. Perhaps I'm an insensitive pig but I need answers.
